What Is Industrial Matting?

Floor covering is one of the most essential accessories for any type of establishment, and especially an industrial one where employees move in and out of the office frequently. The concrete floor can be stained by dirt, dust, liquid beverages, oil, harmful chemicals, etc., which enter the working area easily. These substances are absorbed by the concrete floor and leave stains. Stains accumulate germs, which can be very harmful to people who come in and out of that working environment. That is why we need floor mats. Usually, a mat of this type is made of vinyl, PVC or rubber. This type of Industrial Floor Mats has other support layers for carpeting and cushioning.

There are various types of floor covering available both in your local stores and online stores. Each type of mat is designed for a specific use. An industrial floor mat is especially made for harsh use of the working place, like welding, thus it is a lot different from mats used in high-volume storerooms. Some floor coverings that are suitable for fast-paced working place are extra durable and heavy duty. They are designed to practically increase productivity of the employees by protecting them from accidents that can cause slow working progress like slippage and also from other health risks by providing low-maintenance floor covering.

An industrial mat is designed for the type of work done inside the industrial working place, which means it is extra durable than other types of mats and very comfortable to walk and stand on. Some more sophisticated floor coverings used in industrial places have been made with a special cushion called "anti-fatigue" components. In the work place, this feature is very beneficial for health since it absorbs the impact that is usually felt at the ankle and knee joints when walking fast. Certain industries are at greater risk than others.

Liquids leak and drip and over spray from production equipment lands on the floors and walkways. Employees use these areas but in some retail areas customers are also at risk of a slip and fall accident.

(1) Absorbent universal socks are a great choice for industrial applications. Socks made general-purposes absorbent materials absorb both oil- and water-based liquids. The socks can be molded around leaky equipment, machinery and drums to stop spills before these spills reach walkways and present an immediate hazard.

2) Use slip resistant Industrial Mats in areas where a smooth floor presents a hazard. Provide safe footing in work areas. Use mats that grip the floor for safe walking.

Absorbent industrial mats provide effective protection by drawing and trapping liquids into the inner highly absorbent melt-blown layer. Work areas can be lined with absorbent mats to keep them dry, comfortable and non-slip.

3) Make proper housekeeping a priority. Reduce liability exposure to slip and falls. Eliminates possible EPA fines for polluting if improper cleaning techniques are being used. You improve the appearance of your facility by eliminating unsightly oil spills.
